I get asked about this one a lot. To my surprise, most of them don’t seem to recognize where the tattoo actually comes from.
So basically, there was a very famous photographer, Man Ray who passed in the mid 70’s. He was very into paintings by Jean-August-Dominique Ingres (a famous French painter in the 1800’s). Anyway, so he was known for keeping people on their toes. He took a nude shot of a woman, and painted violin “f” holes on the print of the shot. What makes the shot is the way the model hides her arms to make her body really look like a violin. The angle also brings out her violin shape.
